Carlos Santana is an unlikely young addition to the surf photographer scene. Growing up miles from the beach in a Mexican American enclave in Southern California near Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, Carlos wasn't brought up at the beach. "I didn’t see the ocean till I was about 7 years old and the first time my parents barely let me set my feet in the water." He stumbled upon photography as a late teen and has been hooked ever since. Today at only 22, he's progressing with every swell and beginning to take some of the most dramatic water shots we've seen.

I'm a Mexican-American surfer and it does my heart good to see another Chicano, a generation (or two?) behind me finding out about the ocean and being apart of the whole scene as well by any means. In my day (the 1970's) it was all pioneering for surfing as well as skating. It wasn't very pretty a lot of the time but it had to be done and I've met A LOT of great people along the way and continue to do so. Big ups to Carlos and Korduroy TV for showing the diversity in what we all love so much.

Wedge is a gnarley to swim. It tricks you and can easily chuck you to the sand. Big respect for some of these photos.
