  • Too Long

    Too Long

I can’t believe it’s been almost six months since my last post on here. With all my other creative endeavors and social media outlets this blog has just slipped through the cracks. But as a friend once told me several years ago – the only thing worse than having a blog is feeling guilty for not keeping it current.

During the next few months I plan to do an overhaul of this whole site, and am unsure if I’ll keep the blog active or not. In the...

  • August Handplanes

    August Handplanes

It’s been a while since I completed a batch of handplanes. In fact, a couple of these got glued up sometime this past winter. But they’re finally done, and most of them have already found homes. One of the two that are left will be in my online shop later today.

  • First Alaia, Second Paipo

    First Alaia, Second Paipo

I recently ordered a batch of 8′ long Paulownia boards for my first alaia. I got some extra just in case, and it turned out to be enough to yield a paipo and three handplanes as well. Super excited to get them all in the water this fall. Everything is still in the finishing stages, but here are a few progress shots from along the way.

I went with the Wegner school of thought here with a deep single concave running just about two thirds up the board.

    The rails are...

  • Sidewalk Surfer

    Sidewalk Surfer

Finally finished up my first sidewalk surfer. It’s made from solid 1/2″ thick Maple with Mahogany stringers. Dimensions are 30″L by 7.75″ W with a wheelbase of 16″. Finished with epoxy resin and a top coat of marine varnish. I’ve had it out a couple times now and it feels great under foot. Just the right amount of flex and it turns beautifully. The one change I plan to make is to counter sink the hardware slightly on the deck so the...

  • Ireland or Bust

    Ireland or Bust

Just finished this custom Maine Maple Logging Truck for a customer in Ireland. She reached out to me a couple months ago looking for a wedding gift for her fiance who is in the timber industry. I had their initials and wedding date engraved on the doors.

She also requested that the cradle be made large enough to fit a wine bottle. I thought it was a brilliant idea, and will now offer that size cradle on the standard model. Now, the truck can be purchased as a toy for...

  • … and the living is easy

… and the living is easy

It’s summertime, and so far I’ve been taking it pretty easy – in the wood shop at least. I’ve been spending a lot of time at the beach teaching my seven year old daughter to really body board, and body surfing alongside. And, I’ve been keeping busy with photography, which can be seen on my other site. But things are starting to pick up.

I have a craft fair coming up, a few orders for trucks and puzzles that need to get completed, and I...

  • Show us Your Quiver

    Show us Your Quiver

Some readers may have already seen this shot on the Korduroy.tv facebook page as one of the finalists for last week’s show us your quiver contest. It was fun to lay them all out on the lawn and climb up on the gorilla ladder to shoot this pic. It was also fun to check out all the other quivers in the album. But it got me thinking.

I’m not a collector – never have been into owning a lot of stuff that I don’t use. That’s why I’m...

  • Two Places at Once

    Two Places at Once

If you follow this blog or have come across it just recently and noticed the time stamps, you know I’ve completely fallen off on posting since around the holidays. That’s because it’s hard to be in two places at once. Or more accurately, it’s hard for me to use my creative energy in two areas at once.

I put a lot of time and energy into Merchants Row for close to a year and a half, but recently I’ve been pulled back into another one of my...

  • March Madness

    March Madness

A friend recently told me that March is statistically the best month for surfing in Maine. I can’t confirm that is true, but I’ll take his word for it. Especially because after a painfully flat February, a large storm delivered some much needed swell right on the first of March. Here’s hoping that it’s a sign for more to come this month.

Nice mention about Merchants Row games and puzzles in the March issue of Downeast Magazine (far left column). Thanks guys.
