    upolu daze

This is the cover of a handmade dvd case I made for Neil Lumsden down in Samoa.  The name was his idea.  The footage was some of the first surfing footage I shot, mostly footage of him.  He had moved down there with his wife and young son, and he lived a really simple existance back then.  I remember he'd be ready to paddle out at some heavy lonely break, and he'd look at his board and shake his head and go, "...great, no wax."  And then he'd...

mikala jones - the right - poster concept

Here's a poster concept from my travel sketchbook from a couple years ago.  I finally got around to painting it last night.  I put some music on, had a glass of wine, and started coloring away.  I originally drew this from memory of one of Mikala's rides from a trip we went on.  This was one of the waves that really stood out.  It was big and frothy.  I probably exaggerated the scale a bit here, but that's part of the fun of drawing...

Little Sea Films - 9 waves poster

Here's the first silkscreened poster edition for Little Sea Films.  The 9 waves in this design are taken directly from the hand painted animation I did for the Little Sea Films intro.  I animated it on paper with ink and brush.  This poster is an edition of 60 hand printed by my friend Matt Ginsberg in Chicago.  They're available here on Korduroy:

Hangs Upon Nothing - Hand Printed Poster #01

This is the very first run of posters for Hangs Upon Nothing. I designed these, and they were hand printed by my friend Matt Ginsberg in Chicago. It's an edition of 50, and currently numbers 32 - 50 are remaining. We'll likely eventually print up some other variations on this design, as it's the main poster design of the film, but none will be exactly like this one. These are here if you'd like one: http://korduroy.tv/makers/jeremy-rumas/store

    froth

Alternate cover frame for the new trailer. I almost used this one instead. Mikala Jones staring into the frothball, and Ryan Turner up near the lip.

  • The Amazing True Story of Kookuroy Roy

The Amazing True Story of Kookuroy Roy

Towards the end of the day at work, I came up with this character idea and a full children's book story idea for him too.  I'm working doing freelance traditional animation right now, animating a whacked out bird character.  I was animating him, and I kept on drawing him frame by frame, and making progress on his scene.  And I started imagining him as a surfer.  And if he were a surfer, he'd be really kooky.  I do this a lot, I'm able to work...

  • heading out

    heading out

Mikala Jones, Marti Paradisis, and Kristov Wau(in the foreground) head out. Jem Cresswell is contributing photos to this project, and he shot this one. This wave looks pretty, but it was scary even from the boat, as some sets swing very wide. One wide one sucked up right in front of us while Daniel and I were on board and we barely scratched over it. I thought for sure we were going to get flipped.

Nias local Kristov is an awesome guy, always smiling, and he...

    adventures of the tuk tuk

My friend in Bangkok works as an EMT in an ambulence and also on rescue teams that act as first responders to accident scenes. Her stories are crazy. One night as we're flying around the city on a three wheeled tuk tuk, taking corners quite fast, I wonder out loud "How often do these things flip over?"

    "All the time!" she says.

  • blacky

    blacky

Blacky, local surfer from Padma, Bali. One of the Padma Boys. My friend Jason Lukas shot this one a few years ago. That's his friend Demian Amar in the background. Blacky can be a wild one, there's barely a dull moment around this kid.  Here he's a bit more contemplative.

Blacky has quite a knack for finding barrels too.
